2.Preparing a project for rendering

In order to take full advantage of RenderGO, you must first properly prepare the output of the After Effects project.

To do this, you need to open a project in Adobe After Effects, select the desired composition and add it to the Render Queue, for this click the menu Composition > Add to Render Queue:

Please note that the queue must contain one prepared composition (if there are other active compositions in the queue, they must be deleted):

Click on the arrow symbol near by Render Settings and select Multi-Machine Settings in the drop-down menu:

Settings name should be changed to Custom: «Multi-Machine Settings».
You can adjust the quality parameters, frame rate by the Render Settings dialog but this is usually taken from composition properties.

Next, you need to select the file format in which the composition will be saved (RenderGO supported only JPEG and PNG sequence). To do this, call the Output Module Settings dialog:

And choose JPEG Sequence or PNG Sequence from Format drop down menu. JPEG is optimal when composition without alpha channel. If composition contain alpha channel please select PNG Sequence.

Example for non alpha channel composition Output Module Settings:

Example for project with alpha channel:

If Save in subfolder checkbox is selected, After Effects will create a subfolder in selected folder.

Notes:

a) It is strongly recommended to specify the names of output folders and files in English!

b) The specified path should not be long (Windows has a limit of the full path length, it is should not exceed 256 characters).

c) Please note that the selected folder must be an empty! If there are files in the selected folder, the process may be interrupted with an error.

If the composition contains a audio, add it to the Render Queue. The Render Queue should look like this:

Sound track should be a second task in the Render Queue.

Save the project file and close After Effects.

3. Working with RenderGO

When the program started, the Render drop-down list will be contains all found After Effects render engines. Please choose the right version of the After Effects, that corresponds to the project opened in the program. If you created (or changed) project in After Effects CC 2018, you may select only this version for render.

Drop the project file to the RenderGO window or click Add project button (with Plus icon):

In the Edit task dialog you can change output format, codec, bitrate and other settings.

Option “Render threads” – the number of simultaneously working (parallel) render threads.

For 4 core CPUs, the use of 3 threads is recommended.

For 6-8 cores – we recommend 4-5 threads.

For 12 and above – 6-8 threads.

Notes:

  • it is not recommended to overload the processor with threads, this can lead to the opposite effect;
  • Please understand that if the number of threads is exceeded, the program may stop working due to lack of memory. After Effects is very demanding on the amount of memory;

Save the render task. To start rendering, click the button with the image of a triangle. During operation, the program will inform about the progress of rendering, CPU and Memory load (In the process of rendering, the load indication can be minimized by clicking on the icon with the graph).
